Alice to Tennants Creek

Two Herds and Two Mobs

We left Alice Springs unharmed! But seriously no issues at all and as a bonus diesel was $2.09 rather the $3 we had elsewhere. We had woken up to rain and cooler weather but as we got further toward Tennants Creek it got back above 34C.

The landscape was more varied a lot of trees in places then back to traditional outback. Throughout the day we had the sandstone hills on the horizon. We made a stop at Karlu Karlu/The Devils Marbles. These are big round boulders of granite we did read how they were formed but easier to read that on Google. They look amazing as if just balanced on the sandstone.

As well as having to slow down for more horses and twice for cows, we had t stop for a group of emu. Looking online a group of emu and a group of feral Aussie horses are both known as a mob.

Water, finally

Enroute we also came across Barrow Creek, the first one to actually have any water in. We also saw why there are flood warnings as despite only a bit of rain we did have to slow down to go through a deep puddle. We can imagine this being much worse when it is really rainy.

The campsite at Tennants Creek is great, as usual not many other people so we had the pool to ourselves. Throughout the site there are big boards giving the history of the local area, an interesting time walking round looking at them.

Ten-Ants

Well termites actually, today was the first day we saw termite hills/mounds in Australia. There were loads of these along the highway, bright orange sculptures. We aren't sure why only appearing now but quite impressive when you're driving past
