Rain Stopped (Horse) Play
After commenting that the worse rain was at night we were met with a very wet day. People saying it is the rainforest after all doesn't really help. We were due to go horse-riding but we cancelled as really heavy rain and low cloud. As the rain carried on all day we felt it was the right decision. We had a lazy day catching on stuff for future trips.
Across the Arenal Lake
The next morning it was still raining as we caught the bus. Today is bus boat bus, as the boat cuts out 9 hours driving round the lake. We caught a boat across at a small jetty. The boat across the lake was very calm compared to other trips. We arrived at a tiny dock on Rio Chiquito. There were 3 minibuses waiting to pick people up. They reversed down this track to pick us up at the jetty, seemed very brave.
Another interesting bus ride
The roads were a whole separate story! The driver said it was a bumpy ride he didn't mention the twists and turns along the way or the steep climbs and descents. Similarly he didn't mention the 2 places were due to the rain the river had joined the road. It felt like a scene from a suspense movie, I noticed Karen was making sure kept reading her book!. I'm sure on a nice day the scenery is fantastic but the rain and the clouds meant we could see very little
Our Stay at the Hotel
The hotel is okay, slightly outside of town with very strange staff. They said if we wanted to go to town they would sort a driver. So we asked for this and the chap said, what now? And we don't have anyone available. He also mentioned load of activities were available so we asked about these ands he seemed very unwilling to provide any further detail.
Unwinding at the Treehouse of Beer
We walked into the town and were befriended by a dog who walked with us for 20 minutes The town is cool and we had a tasty lunch and couple of beers at the Tree House Restaurant, which does have a massive tree growing in the middle, and we began to forget all about that nerve-wracking ride.
Tonight we are eating local early and coming back to watch a film as we have Netflix here. We were in Canada the last time we watched any TV or a film so about 2 months ago, can't say it's been something we've missed.
