Beer, Buses and Buddha

More Paperwork

We had two days free in Vientiane. The first morning was paperwork again. Sorting flights for Sri Lanka and more urgently the Cambodian e-visa.

Brewery Visit

As a reward, we headed to Corebeer. A craft beer brewery and bar. The walk was just under 3km but in the heat seemed further. It was an interesting walk past a couple of temples and the Silk Museum. It's set in a less touristy area and at 5.30pm we saw a mini post work rush.

The brewery was worth the walk, it had some nice beer and very similar to the big industrial places in the UK. The rain came down as we were due to head back so we used the taxi service. The beer must have been good as whilst drinking I realised I'd put the wrong start date on the visa. Luckily we could correct and in the morning I had the confirmation they had gone through.

Buddha Park

The next day we decided to brave the local buses. We wanted to visit the Buddha Park, a taxi was about £6 each way or a bus tour for $20. But online we saw details of a public bus for about 35p each! It seemed very popular in other blogs, so we expected it to be full of tourists. We were the only 2 non-locals on a full bus so felt very cool. Luckily, the journey was easy.

The Buddha Park was fantastic. Made in the 1950s, it is lots of statues of different Buddha's. One was the shape of a pumpkin that you can climb inside, we ignored the no over 50 signs! The steps or rocks to climb to the viewing part at the top got narrower and narrower. We made it to the top but to get outside was a tiny hole and then steps down! We decided safety first and climbed back down.

There was one more Buddha with steps this was more of a tower and the steps gradually became vertical. The sign warning about a drop also put us off so we enjoyed the view from the ground. The park is great to walk around it wasn't bust at all but the heat was as extreme as ever. We caught the bus back to town and then enjoyed the pool.

Tomorrow we head to Pakse our last stop in Laos. We leave Cambodia on 13th June for Sri Lanka and hope we have the SL trip sorted by then.
