Angkor Wat
Our first two days in Siem Reap were spent in the Angkor Wat area visiting lots of temples
The first day was for sunrise which meant a 4am start. And although the sun wasn't totally visible it was worth the early start for seeing the temple in that light.
The first day included the main temple, the Lara Croft famous one from tomb raider as well as the Bayon Temple with 37 towers and over 200 faces in the temple and towers smiling down. It was excellent. We finished the tour at 1pm so back to the hotel for the pool and to chill.
Day 2 More Temples
The second day continued in the same theme with lots of temple but again quite varied. It was another hot and sunny day, at 33C but a feels like 42C due to the humidity. Although the clouds came across at the end to scupper the sunset view!
Our favourite temple today was Neak Pian, which is set on an island in a man-made lake. To get there we walked across a wooden bridge and the views across the lake were amazing. Lily pads, lotus flowers and trees with no leaves which had grown when the lake dried but had now died as the water is now at a permanent level but remained standing.
On both days our guides were excellent giving so much history and making it fun as well. The group varied on each day and on the second especially very sociable and we had a good laugh.
It was a long day in the heat 10am to 7pm so we just had tea in the hotel and crashed. Hopefully in the next couple of days may pretend to be young and visit Pub Street. Although we have been warned by our son James not be there too late as it will be too lively for us!
