Arriving in Coron
The transfer to our hotel in Coron was nice and smooth and it looks a nice hotel again. Like in El Nido it's just outside the main town but plenty of the trikes to get us about. The views from the hotel is pretty amazing.
Getting Around in Coron
We took the trike to get into town, to visit the Brewhouse in my continued attempt to get some nice beer. The bar was part of a food court type place but all a bit confusing as there were waiters for different places so once we picked what we wanted we had to order it all separately. The beer again disappointed and there was just a few fans to keep the place cool, meaning it was like an oven. Coron itself was really busy loads of trikes and cars with hardly any pavements. I think probably a place for younger people but maybe we just chose badly with our food choice and that made us less enthralled by the town itself.
Getting back to the hotel was interesting some of their trikes have a bigger contraption built onto the motorbike so you have back seats as well, Karen was in the back and me upfront. He wouldn't let us both go in the back I think scared of a weight imbalance but also as he didn't know where out hotel was, I had to find it on google maps. It meant a hair raising journey home as firstly I was holding my phone so he could see it rather than holding on the side of the trike and secondly he seemed to be looking at my phone more than the road. We made it safely though.
Island Hopping Adventures
The next day we were island hopping again. These are good trips just a bit chaotic to start with, as crazy number of trips starting at the same time with loads of street hawkers trying to sell their wares, either stuff for the trip or general souvenirs. The use really cute young children to try to sell water. We did succumb though and bought a waterproof bag.
Once on the boat things get easier, today's trip was as smaller group 13 rather 24. Also seemed a much friendlier group. It was a similar mix of swimming, snorkelling and kayaking. We had to pay extra for kayaks an everyone went for the more expensive clear kayak but that wasn't really worthwhile as when we were kayaking there wasn't much to see in the ocean. The trip was good, lots of fish and coral to see and some amazing scenery with the steep limestone cliffs going straight up from lakes and lagoons.
The traditional boats are quite open so lots of sea spray....the waterproof bag turned out to be a necessary purchase.
The kayaking was a long day, we left the hotel around 8am and got back just after 6pm so we had tea here and then an early night. Tomorrow we have a Coron beaches boat trip but I think I've picked up a bug and not feeling great so Karen may be doing that on her own.
Fellow Travellers
We spoke to a family from Rotherham today, the 2 children were around 13 and 7. The mum explained they have a 4-week holiday at Easter taking the children out of school for 2 of those weeks so they can experience travelling, which seems a top thing to do. Unfortunately, how she described it reminded me of the Modern Parents from Viz with their New Age parenting.
