Karen Does Coron Beaches Solo
While in Coron Matthew developed a throat infection so after a day snorkelling/kayaking and generally knackering himself out I opted to do the next day trip on my own while he rested.
Like the first trip you arrive at the harbour to well organised chaos. Lots of people, lots of hawkers and lots of noise. I was herded onto a local boat with 12 others. It was nice to see 3 from yesterday's tour as well.
This trip was all about the beaches. We did three stops and at each I found a nice peaceful spot to relax and read as well as some people watching. One thing I like about here is that there are lots of hammocks, raised platforms etc to chill out on with no one hassling you to pay a fee or buy anything.
Scenery totally amazing, as you can see from my Facebook pictures.
The trip back to LA, as the guide called it (loading area in Coron) the sea was a bit choppy. The local boats have no protection whatsoever so everyone on the boat got a thorough drenching from sea spray, waves washing into the boat. Luckily, we have bought an ocean dry bag the day before. Today it was a godsend and kept things dry.
Our hotel in Coron was exceptional. All the staff were amazing. Very good vibes to chill which is what we did on our last day.
Getting to Cebu
Today we flew to Cebu, the second largest city in the Philippines after Manila. Settled into a very posh hotel. The shuttle driver was slightly mad, first he tried to get us to cancel our future tours and do them with him, he wanted to know how much we had paid. When we said part of a bigger package he then insisted that was a big mistake and he could have done the 20 day trip for us! He then started going on about tips and his boss told him to ask for a tip and he needed a tip to buy lunch for himself and his kids. We tip anyway so just did our normal thing not sure how impressed he was!
Matthews still rough so resting and recovering still....next day trip booked for tomorrow.
