Breakfast
A bit of luxury today as we started with a hotel breakfast which was included with the room cost.
After that we headed to the old town, Casco Viejo. To get there we followed the cycling and walking causeway on the front which was really nice, giving great views of the Pacific.
Casco Viejo
After that we headed to the old town, Casco Viejo. To get there we followed the cycling and walking causeway on the front which was really nice, giving great views of the Pacific. We also had the strange sight of four raccoons on the sea wall.
The old town is an amazing place full of churches and ruins. Luckily, a guy from our previous tour has built an App called Kuratour which had a great walking tour of the area with explanations of many places.
There were lots of police around the old town and the roads to the President's Palace were closed so we imagine someone important was in residence.
The heat has come back and we were walking in the full sun, the walk to and round the old town was about 7 miles but felt a lot longer in the heat, we were almost glad when it stated to cloud over
Panama Hat Canal
After lunch we used uber to get a taxi to the visitor centre at the Panama Canal. This included an IMAX film with Morgan Freeman giving us the history of the canal. Then the chance to watch some boats/ships go through. Although the same theory as our canals, it is more automatic with no one winding the gates open
We got a taxi back to our hotel but hit rush hour it was nightmarish! We really felt for the taxi driver. Panama is completely chocker with cars, can it really be this bad everyday?
Franks Place
We're just back from tea, we went to an Italian called Frank's Place. Great food and lovely staff. But they were a bit over attentive and there seemed a never-ending stream of waiters coming to ask how our food was!
The hotel is nice, but work is being done meaning the rooftop pool and gym aren't available. More concerning is that we fly to another area of Panama on Thursday and still waiting for the tickets from the tour company. Karen is confident it will be sort.
