Discovering the Coast: Torquay to Lorne

Getting Used to the Dirty Jobs
After a full day in Torquay where we took another coast walk we were ready to set off to Lorne. A joint effort had cleaned out the toilet cassette so we were ready to go. We have agreed only number ones to be done in the van toilet where possible.
The journey to Lorne saw us start the Great Ocean road and we are enjoying the scenery. Having a big van is good for room and facilities but does seem to limit where we can park up hopefully as we go we will get better at finding spaces to park.
Getting to Lorne
We stopped for some scenery shots and also had time at Split Point Lighthouse. I went up to the top and the views were fantastic. I learnt the glass was from nearly 200 years ago and made in Birmingham.
The Ocean Road was built after the first World War to give the returning soldiers work and we also passed the site of the last toll house which we must have been a way of paying for the construction.
The road obviously follows the shape of the coastline so any Romans would despair and going round the hairpins took some getting used to.
Looking at you, Lorne
Arriving at the campsite in Lorne they said they had kept the pitch next to us free as we'd mentioned again our inexperience!
We took a walk to the pier which from the round looked close but took most of the afternoon to get there and back. I can't believe how clear the sea is, we had a paddle and even when we got a bit deeper can still see the sea bed, a bit different to the North Sea!
So far enjoying the campervan life and we've still had all meals from the van.
