Exploring Mae Hong Son

Getting to Mae Hong Son

Our journey to Mae Hong Son started in the sunshine but finished in torrential rain. For the third travelling day our tuk tuk broke down. They always fix it, but it does seems like Tom, our tuk tuk, doesn't like the rain or sunshine. Our driver, Won, is the newest so we think has the dodgy vehicle. Today when we were breaking down another driver swapped with him but 2 minutes later our tuk tuk cut out again so no blame on Won. Eventually we made it to our hotel just outside the town.

Tea (dinner) here was probably one of the least inspiring. The food was fine but lacking in a bit of oomph.

Haircuts and Phone Covers

We are at this resort for 2 nights so we had a free day. The Oz ladies went to see Karen's long neck hill tribe but we decided on a day looking around town with Robin and Jen. We all went to get new screen covers unfortunately they didn't have one for my flip phone but the others seemed excellent. Karen's cost £2.20! Me and Karen also got haircuts, the cuts were fine but the hair wash beforehand was like a head massage completely amazing, you lay down for it...two cuts for just over £10.

In town we walked round the lake and spent time in the temple. We are close,15km, from what was Burma so interesting to see a slightly different temple styles.

An Evening in Mae Hong Son

We had some time in the pool and then went back to town for tea again with the South African couple. I hope it isn't becoming us 4 and the others as 2 separate groups. The food was great, at a restaurant next to the lake the views of the lake and coloured fountains against the mountains were brilliant. Halfway through the rain came down with thunder and lighting replacing the previous views as the evening became dark. Just crossing the road for the lift back was a paddle.

We can't believe only 2 more full days of this tour. The group does seem a little split but I think partly due to booking an all female group of 8 friends on a 12 person trip. The couple we are eating with, despite my initial misgivings, are really nice and great company but we feel some of the other group don't want to mix as in their own sub-group.

However we are enjoying the trip and will be sad to say good bye to mostly everyone in a few days time.
