Exploring Napier and Picton

Day One: Napier

We've had two days of trips in New Zealand. The first was in Picton. This was an amazing town full of art deco buildings. When the town was hit by an earthquake in the 30s they rebuilt it with buildings in this style. A great place to walk around. We also walked along the front and stopped at LickThis for ice creams.

It was a shared table for our evening meal and we sat with a Canada couple and we had a good laugh, they spoke their minds over Trump! The main entertainment in the evening was the Cruise band playing rock songs. It wasn't too bad! It did amuse me when they covered Walk this Way, not sure the cruise crowd are in Run DMC's demographic.

The night before there was a violinist in the plaza who was excellent. A brilliant mix of tunes and chat. Probably the only entertainer so far that I'd have been happy to pay to hear.

Rita, Sue and Bob Too

Today was Napier, another nice town. Again being tight or healthy we didn't sign up for a tour but walked along a part of the coast that goes out into the sea called; The Snout. We loved the cycle paths on the main track there was one called Bob's path to Bob's Bay and one called Sue's path sadly I didn't spot Rita's. The views were amazing and as we started early it was a decent temperature for walking although the hills did get us sweating. The locals are friendly stopping and talking, I wasn't sure if they'd hate having all the cruise people in their town. One lady said the town's population is doubled when the biggest ships come in. Amusingly I did manage to get told off by one walker coming the other way as I wasn't walking on the left! I managed to keep my thoughts on his comment to myself rather than cause an international incident!

We walked for about 3 hours and came back to the boat for the monstrosity that is the Super Bowl, which turned into a bit of a let-down being so one-sided.
