Getting to the airport

The travelling days can often be hard work but surprisingly the trip from Costa Rica to Peru went well. Slightly delayed blog due to internet issues and updated photo's to follow!

First we caught the bus to San Jose. The driver checked we all had seat belts on then played the company announcement. These were both firsts so we thought have got a sensible driver for the last bus ride in Costa Rica. Sadly not, I think he was the craziest yet, overtaking on bends whether up or downhill. Then on dual carriageway overtaking in either lane.

The bus is a twice a day shuttle meaning we arrived at 12 for a 5pm flight, the other people on the bus had a 6.30pm flight so even worse for them. The time went quickly and botth airports were easy to navigate.

Getting to the Hotel

We met the prearranged driver in Lima with no issues. We were set to order an uber from Lima airport but the stories on the Internet put us off, seems uber aren't particularly regulated in Lima so best to avoid especially from the airport when you have all your belongings with you. Robberies seem quite common according to stories read.

Discovering the City and Meeting New Friends

After a decent night's rest we went for a walk to Barranco, which is a cool neighbourhood in Lima. The walk was great along the seafront cliffs. We passed a statue of Paddington and other famous Peruvians. The walk was really nice with loads of being done to keep the path tidy and improve it. The neighbourhood was very cool as well, it's of open spaces, murals and churches.

On our walk we had seen pictures on a fence of lots of doctors with a black ribbon and also a small pot for flowers or a candle. We were unsure what this meant but looking on the internet this was to remember all the medical staff who died from covid. It seems Peru had the highest death rata per capita of population from covid and they also lost a lot of doctors and other medical staff. It seemed a good way to remember them on what was a popular walking route for both locals and tourists.

A lot of walking today, about 10 miles altogether but pretty flat.

This evening we met the rest of our new group, we're hoping as nice as the last one.
