From Peru to La Paz: You can't catch a boat to Bolivia

Getting to La Paz

Another ridiculously early start saw us leave Puno at 5.30am and head to Bolivia.

Luckily a nice bus with roomy reclining seats so we were all able to sleep. The crossing into Bolivia all went well, apparently they can sometimes be a little officious and hold people up for no reason.

Once in Bolivia we had another couple of hours drive/sleep before getting to La Paz. It is a big city and 3650 metres high.

Experience the Thrill of Cholita Wrestling

It was a rush, but we had some food then 6 of us went to the Cholita wrestling at a nearby town called El Alto which is over 4000 metres above sea level. The wrestling as a one off was great fun. Seemed to be 50/50 tourists and locals, it was a mix of both blokes and women wrestling. They were all dressed up, the women mainly in traditional Bolivian dress. It was wrestling mixed with pantomime so not that far off Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. It was $15 dollars to for the bus there and back, entrance, a coke and popcorn and a little souvenir. We all came away laughing from a great time..
