Heading towards the Stuart Highway

On the Road

We've now had 2 days on the road with just one night stops, both days travelling around 300km. The roads have been pretty clear and generally very straight. We've been following the coast first to Adelaide then up to Port Augusta. There has been a lot of massive farms both crops and sheep. We also have mountains in the distance, so the scenery is changing. We took a detour for Hanhdorf which is a German town, looked very busy and picturesque.

We've seen lots of lakes and lagoons but as it's the end of the summer these have been dry beds with very little (if any) water.

Fringe Festival

Our first stop was Adelaide, we'd decided just to have one night to allow more time on the Stuart Highway. Although, when we went in for the comedy shows it looks an interesting city and probably deserved more than one night. We had a curry for tea which was our first restaurant curry since Toronto at the end of September!

The comedy show was in a big park with lots of tents with different shows on. The Aussies seem to love drag acts and there were lots of these, I'm guessing something to do with Dame Edna and Priscilla. We didn't choose any of these and our first act was Ross Noble he was good but unfortunately I was sat next to a very loud Scottish guy who thought he was funny and constantly shouted out. A bit of a nightmare, a few heckles are good for the comedy value but constant moronic comments from the bloke next to me was horrendous.

Luckily the S**faced Shakespeare was better with more appropriate audience participation, basically 4 actors performing a version of A Midsummer's Night Dream, but one of them has to drink all day so are drunk for the show. Apparently been going for 15 years now, so we guess she was genuinely drunk but not sure if acting up as well.

Port Augusta

We set off for Port Augusta, again just a one night stop and we are taking it easy with a swim and then getting the next few days planned.

From Port Augusta will be on the Stuart Highway and Darwin here we come.
