Haircut Fade
Whilst Karen chilled by the pool, I went for a haircut. I think this went okay although I do seem to have a fade! The haircut ended interestingly as the chap asked if I wanted a massage. Seeing my confusion he quickly added a head massage.
Not Finishing on a Curry
We had tea at an Italian as I think we both wanted a change from curry. We finished with an arrack; a local spirit made from the sap of the coconut tree. A bit too similar to whisky for me.
Sri Lanka Summary
We've really enjoyed our time in Sri Lanka, it wasn't somewhere on our initial plan and was definitely worth doing. We did pick a budget trip but the hotels were generally fine, a couple excellent and one poor. Our guide/driver Pinto was great, friendly and reliable. I think he liked touring with us as often we'd say to not start until 10am and we were never out late, he was picking us up from restaurants by 9pm most evenings!
The food has been great, I think the curries got better the further north (as more like Indian curries) we went and I amazed myself by choosing veggie options a fair amount.
We picked the North and Eastern tour to avoid the rain in the south and we've had great weather, although the high 30's feels like 42C has made the walking around a bit hot and sweaty. The North has been really interesting, great scenery nice people and really interesting places. Also, colourful sarees, temples and villages.
A few highlights, the sunset over Kandy, sunrise at Sigirya Fort, the wildlife and once we made it back the boat trip to Delft. I had looked forward to seeing Adam's Bridge and wasn't disappointed I loved the legend around it. In the North there weren't many, if any other tourists, around so although we weren't discovering new worlds it did feel quite special.
I was surprised how the civil war was such a taboo subject after seeing other countries make this part of their tourism.
We have really enjoyed seeing all the different temples but maybe a break from temples is due.
Being me, I was also impressed how cheap everything was.
