On The Road In Sri Lanka

Budget Blown?
I think it shows what our budget has been over the last few months as tonight we had a meal at a good restaurant and we were concerned that 2 mains, 2 desserts, 4 beers and 2 cocktails came to £35! I would add that after abig breakfast today, Sri Lanka curry, we didn't have any lunch.
Bet that we look good on the Dance Floor
We are now in Ella and the restaurant we are in also has an apparently legendary DJ, Harry Bunker, playing each week. It definitely draws the crowds as there were loads of young folks heading upstairs. Lucky for them, his set didn't start until 9pm and we had gone by then so we weren't able to strut our stuff.
Finding Ella
We had left Negombo at 9am this morning and a 7 hour drive took us to central and hilly Sri Lanka. We had stops at Buduruwagala Temple, an amazing place with massive carvings of the Buddha and others on the rock wall. They are from 1500 years ago and since the Taliban and Isis have destroyed various sites it is now believed to be biggest Buddhist carvings left. 51 feet high.
After this we saw 2 waterfalls the first a smaller one down some scary steps. Sadly, lots of people there and lots of litter left.
The second was Ravana Waterfalls a massive height and next to the road, which was a relief after the previous walk/climb.
Nice View
We then arrived at the hotel, it is high in the mountains about 2 miles from the centre of Ella. The views are amazing and we hope for clear skies to see the sunrise or sunset. Luckily our driver drove us to and from town for tea as I don't think we would have walked and the hairpin bends on the steep hill look scary by tuktuk. Despite the cost the meal was great. I had a local chicken curry with 7 different veg and fruit curries set around a mound of rice. Shockingly I enjoyed the beetroot curry and curried pumpkin.
