Strange Dealings at the Airport

The flight to Pakse was nice and easy, 2 quite small airports. Although at Vientiane we saw 3 people on the flight before us acting strangely. They all acknowledged each other but went through check in and boarding separately. Really glad they weren't on our flight.

Underwhelmed, so far, in Pakse

Our hotel is 1km outside Pakse centre and where we are is a bit scruffy and not much happening. This sums up the hotel, Le Jardin, as well. It had great reviews online it's fine but very average, nice pool though. Despite not being busy gave as a room on the 1st floor so had to lug our cases up and room has no window. After the lovely stay in Vientiane this is a bit disappointing....it is making Karen look at 4* places for the hotel we need to book in Phnom Penh soon.

Pakse: Things Improve with Tea

We used the hotel shuttle bus to get into town. The town was pretty much deserted, definitely the low season. We found an Italian restaurant which and had a really nice meal. The restaurant compared to everywhere else was quite busy. The town looked nice at night lit up and big wide streets.

We are trying to get a day trip sorted for tomorrow, especially keen for to see Vat Phou a Hindu temple built in the 5th Century. It is much smaller than Angkor Wat but older and we feel will provide a good comparison for when we are in Cambodia. The trip costs so far have been scary, much more than anywhere else in Laos. Not sure why, as so few tourists but maybe means less tour companies as well. We will sort something though.

On the way back to the room Karen saw lots of cockroaches on the ground floor so this may explain why we weren't given a room down there.
