Setting Off For Sri Lanka

A Long Haul to Sri Lanka

A quick taxi from the hotel go us to the airport. This was a smooth process except we were told had to pick our bags up at Bangkok where we boarded the 2nd flight. This wasn't on the Expedia website when we booked it.

Got to Bangkok and we were really unclear where we had to go. We asked someone who said the bags would be up on the 3rd floor, we went there and asked at the information desk, he said would be up here in an hour and SL airlines transfer desk would open then. We had been given stickers saying transfer on, so thought this was right. After this time the airline desk opened and we thought great, however no such luck! She explained we had to go through immigration and then baggage reclaim. Followed by the check in counter. As we queued up at immigration we were getting nervous about the time and would our bags still be there. Luckily although slow moving we got through and food our bags at the side of the carousel, we did have to pay an airline tax but we've made to departures.

Star Spotting and Seat Belt Poems

There was someone famous at the airport and loads of people filming and taking pictures but we just ran past. No idea who it was.

We rewarded ourselves for getting to departures with a Burger king and a can of Chang Beer! Although as the food was a lot heavier to what we've been eating, we couldn't finish our burgers.

Sri Lanka Air had a unique approach to the safety announcement they did it all in rhyme which was a bit fun but did include these couplet "slip it in and pull it tight until it feels just right" to explain the seat belts fastening.

Sri Lanka

After the earlier stress Columbo Airport was a breeze and we met our driver Pinto who seems a decent chap.

Tonight's hotel was the expected drop from the last couple but this tour is very much Sri Lanka on a budget.

We walked to an Italian restaurant tonight, the food was delicious, we had different meals but both involved blue cheese. Hopefully a sign of future prices as 2 meals, a soda and smoothie cost us £14.
