Changing Landscapes and Cool Termites

We had two days of driving with a stop at Daly Waters overnight.

The main things we've noticed is the landscape becoming much greener and forests replacing the bush. We've also continued to be impressed by the Termite mounds. There seems to be a craze to dress them up and put t-shirts on the mounds. The best ones we've seen are Dumbledore, Father Christmas, Pocahontas a builder in a hi-viz jacket with a drill and a Jedi master! We also liked the termite mounds which had grown since the t-shirt was put on, giving an incredible hulk look.

Daly Waters our overnight stop has a famous pub full of bizarre memorabilia. The junkyard was interesting but we thought it was like one of those UK pubs which keeps in Christmas decorations up all year trying a bit too hard. About 5 mi uses after we arrived at the pub the heavens opened and total downpour.

We set off for Katherine this morning, which was only 300km, and the second from last driving day of our Oz trip. The journey went well until we were waiting to turn right into the campsite. The van behind didn't notice and crashed into us. I think for us more shock than anything, we got out and the guy behind was stuck in his van as the front end crumpled. Luckily though he seemed okay. We called the emergency 000 number and pretty soon we had police, ambulance and fire people sorting it. They got the chap out and took him to hospital, he seemed okay so hopefully just a precaution. He did explain he had been looking at his map and then when he looked up it was too late to avoid us.

Karen had been driving and luckily she got negative results for the drink and drugs tests the police do as standard.

We are now waiting for a new van (which has to come from Darwin) and have emptied the old one. Luckily, the hire company have moved us to a cabin for the night.

We did have time for a walk to some hot springs. These were great for swimming although the crocodiles warnings were a little concerning.
