Two Trips to Lio

Morning at the Beach

For our last day in El Nido, Karen suggested Lio which is a local beach and the other place the hotel covers with a shuttle bus.

The drive there was amazing through part of a forest then down to the beach right next to the flight path. We could see see the route our plane took to land. Quite impressive sitting on the beach watching planes come into land. Other than the planes the beach was much quieter than El Nido and really clean.

The area is currently being built up but with strict rules to protect the environment and stop too much construction. I'd seen stuff online suggesting it was El Nido's secret beach, that is a bit of an exaggeration as there were plenty of other people there, but it was a nice couple of hours. The only downside was a warning about nik nik sand flies which are apparently too small to see but their bite itch like crazy. Luckily despite no insect repellent they didn't get us.

There were lots of nice looking restaurants so we decided to come back for tea and the sunset, making the most of the free shuttle.

Tea and Sunsets

We picked a restaurant on the front and sat watching the sun set behind an island on the horizon. I was just thinking that was okay but not quite the colours I'd seen described when the sky became a real mix of red and oranges.

The food at the restaurant was great we both had paella. Karen's cocktails were strong, but alas the only beer was quite standard tasting lager, hopefully we will find more choice in our next stops.

On to Coron

Flying out the following morning was easy, although at one time there were 3 flights due to leave the small airport within 10 minutes. Ours was in the middle so I planned to rely on Karen getting us on the correct flight. But then the other 2 were delayed for an hour each, luckily for us ours left on time.
